Ayurvedic Food & Herb Recommendations : Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe vera juice is a soothing herbal drink known for supporting digestion, hydration, skin health, and overall wellbeing when consumed correctly and in moderation.

Benefits of Aloe Vera Juice

  • Supports healthy digestion
Aloe vera juice may help soothe the digestive tract, ease occasional acidity or heartburn, and support smoother bowel movements due to its natural compounds and mild laxative effect.
  • Promotes hydration and detox
The high water content in aloe vera juice helps keep the body hydrated while its antioxidants support gentle detoxification and overall cellular protection.
  • Helps skin clarity and glow
Antioxidants, vitamin C, and anti‑inflammatory compounds in aloe may help support clearer skin from within and improve overall skin texture when combined with a healthy lifestyle.
  • May support blood sugar balance
Early research suggests aloe vera juice could help improve fasting blood sugar levels, but people with diabetes should only use it under medical supervision.
  • Supports oral and gut health
Aloe’s antimicrobial and anti‑inflammatory properties may benefit gum health and help maintain a healthier gut environment.

General guidance often suggests 20–30 ml aloe vera juice once or twice daily, diluted with water or juice; always follow your product’s label and consult your healthcare professional if you have medical conditions.

How to Prepare Fresh Aloe Vera Juice

Ingredients

  • 1 large fresh aloe vera leaf
  • 1–2 cups drinking water (or coconut water / citrus juice for flavour)
  • Optional: honey or other sweetener, lemon or lime juice, pinch of salt or herbs for taste

Preparation steps

  1. Harvest and drain latex – Wash the aloe leaf, trim the base and place it upright in a jar for 10–15 minutes so the yellow latex drains out, then rinse well.
  2. Remove skin and thorns – Carefully cut off the thorny edges and peel away all the green rind, keeping only the clear inner gel. Discard any remaining yellow parts.
  3. Rinse the gel – Cut the gel into small cubes and rinse in clean water once or twice to reduce bitterness and traces of latex.
  4. Blend with water – Add 2–3 tablespoons of aloe gel (or a 2‑inch piece) to a blender with 1 cup of water or juice and blend briefly until smooth. Do not over‑blend to avoid heating the gel.
  5. Strain and flavour – Strain the mixture if you prefer a smoother drink, then add lemon juice, sweetener, or a pinch of salt to taste.
  6. Serve fresh – Drink immediately for best potency, or refrigerate in a clean glass bottle and consume within 2–3 days, shaking well before use.

Note: People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, children, or those with chronic illnesses or on regular medication should seek medical advice before consuming concentrated aloe vera juice.
